Tight, clean book; nice copy. The dj has some wear, a couple of tears along edges. Front flap says, "To enter the mad world of Onliness is to enter our own world through the bizarre looking glass of a funhouse mirror. The novel is set in Chapel, Virginia a settled homogenous area before the great melee and the events that produced it. They begin when Tom Zucold, who owns the Bowie Garage, picks up a hitchhiker Billy Luke Tomson, six foot ten, twenty year old innocent. When they shake hands, Zucold renames Billy Luke 'The Grip' and hires him to work in the garage. The Grip has little grip on anything but putting shots, which he makes out of automobile fenders. Desiring American success in the form of money, clothes, and a Corvette, the Grip is haunted by the idea of being 'a gentleman' like Bob Barker, Game Show personality. Zucold is haunted by the mystique of a champion pool hustler, the Carolina Kid, whose eyes on a poster radiate the sunlight...."
